How 206 is understood across different contexts — never implying one meaning because of another.

• Mathematics

  206 is why you can drag the scrubber in a video and have it start playing from there. The client asks for a byte range, the server returns just that slice, and the same mechanism underpins resumable downloads — a transfer interrupted at 60% resumes rather than restarts.

• Technology & computing

  The 206 continued in production in Iran years after Peugeot stopped building it in Europe. Selling tooling to another market is a standard way a car model outlives its manufacturer's interest in it.

• Sport

  206 NOCs compete at the Summer Olympics, more than the 193 UN member states. The difference is territories that field teams without being sovereign states, such as Puerto Rico, Hong Kong and Palestine — which is why Olympic participation is not a map of countries.

  An assigned identifier from a fixed registry or standard — its digits don't represent an amount, and arithmetic on it is meaningless (HTTP status 404 + 1 is not a 'better' status; it's a different, unrelated code).
